On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at approximately 1:26 A.M., police responded to 77 W State Street for a report that the People’s Bank ATM had just been broken into. When officers arrived, they spoke with the calling party who stated that a white Ford dump truck had pulled up to the ATM and three individuals exited the truck. The three individuals were able to open the ATM and connect chains to it. One of the parties then reentered the truck and accelerated forward causing the ATM to be ripped open. The other two individuals collected the “cash boxes” from the ATM before getting in the passenger side of the truck. The truck then sped away.

A short time later, the truck was found abandoned approximately a half mile away. It was discovered that the truck had been reported stolen from South Hadley the previous night. The suspects left behind the truck, crow bars, and chains that had been used to break into the ATM.

Through communications with other local police departments, it was discovered that the same truck attempted to break into the Berkshire Bank ATM on Shaker Road in East Longmeadow at 11:04 P.M. the same night. The suspects were not successful in gaining entry into the ATM and left the area. The truck was then seen on Main Street in Indian Orchard a short time later.

In reviewing security footage of the incident, it appears that the truck is being followed by a small dark colored SUV.
